TRAVEL GLOSSARY
Airport Check In Counter - The area in the airport terminal where you check yourself and your bags in.
All-Inclusive - An all-inclusive resort is where everything is included in the price of your vacation package. Food, drinks, and numerous activities are typically included in the vacation price.
Baggage Allowance - The maximum number of bags that you are allowed. Midwest Airlines permits a maximum of three checked bags and no carry-on bag, or two checked bags and a maximum of one carry-on.
Boarding Pass - The paper document that you receive from the airline that allows you to board plane.
Cancellation Fee/Cancellation Penalty - The amount of money that the traveler is charged when a reservation is cancelled.
Change Fee - The cost to the traveler when they make a change to the reservation within a penalty period.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - Optional car rental insurance that is offered at the time of rental that can insure the driver against certain costs if the vehicle is in an accident and damaged.
Concourse - In the airport, the gates are separated into sections, called a concourse.
Confirmation - This is received by a traveler when they make a reservation for their vacation plans.
Connecting Flight - When a traveler has to change planes on the way to their destination, the flights after the initial flight are called "connecting flights".
Destination - The place a traveler goes on vacation to have fun!
Direct Flight - When a traveler arrives at their destination without having to change planes.
Double - A resort room that can be occupied by two people. It can have beds of different sizes, from twin to king.
Double Occupancy Rate - What the room costs when shared by two people. The price is a cumulative price, and not listed as per person.
Drop Charge - What a traveler is charged when renting a car in one location and leaving it in another.
Economy Class - Generally the least expensive class of airfare on a plane.
Estimated Flying Time - The approximate time that it will take to get from the origin to the destination.
Fare Rules - Restrictions that airlines place on the tickets that you purchase. Different tickets can have different rules and prices depending on how restrictive they are.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) - The government body that is in charge of the airline industry.
Gate - The area in which a traveler boards a plane to go on vacation!
Guaranteed Reservation - When a traveler gives a credit card number to guarantee a hotel room. This is often required, and used especially when a late check-in is required. The credit card is charged the guaranteed amount whether or not the traveler shows up.
Itinerary - Your vacation schedule.
King Room - A room with a king-size bed.
Layover - The amount of time between when the first flight lands and the second flight departs, when a traveler had a "connecting flight."
Limited Mileage Allowance - The amount of miles that a traveler is allowed to put on a rental car before extra fees are assessed.
Midwest Miles - Midwest Airlines frequent flyer program.
Mileage Charge - The amount of money that is charged after the "limited mileage allowance" has been exceeded.
Minimum Stay - A certain amount of nights that a traveler must stay to take advantage of a special offer or rate.
Nonrefundable Tickets - When a traveler purchases a ticket under the rules that they cannot receive a refund or exchange for that ticket.
Nonstop - A flight that takes the traveler directly from their origin to the destination, without stopping.
Origin - Home sweet home!
Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) - An airport tax authorized by the US Congress. Used by communities for additions and improvements to their airport facilities. This is a charge that is issued per passenger.
Penalty - The amount of money that is lost by a traveler when changing or canceling a reservation.
Promotional Code - A promotional code is an optional code that you can enter to automatically select special offers or vacation inclusions. If you have a promotional code, please enter it in the promo code box. If you don't have a promotional code, simply leave the field blank and proceed.
Proof of Citizenship - Travelers need Proof of Citizenship when traveling to a foreign country. The accepted forms of Proof of Citizenship are usually a passport or a government issued i.d. (like a driver's license) and a certified birth certificate.
Proof of Identity - A government issued i.d. used to establish that the traveler actually is the person that they claim to be.
Restricted Fares - Airfares that have many rules and restrictions attached to them in return for special rates.
Restricted Travel Dates - Dates when travel offers or rates are not available. Many holidays are restricted travel dates.
ROH (Run Of House) - Run of House is the standard room category for a hotel.
Room Tax - The amount of money that is charged by the local community for a nightly hotel stay.
Round-Trip - A flight that takes the traveler from their origin to the destination and then back to the origin at a later date.

Signature Service - Signature Service features two-across, wide leather seating and the service you have come to know as Midwest Airlines is what Signature has to offer.
Special Services - Services given to passengers who have special needs such as assistance in getting on and off of the plane.
Ticket - What a traveler takes to the airport to use during check-in as a receipt of their itinerary.
Travel Protection - Midwest Airlines Vacations' Travel Protection program that offers the traveler complete protection against unforeseen events. This program offers special benefits regarding itinerary changes, cancellation, vacation price, and more.
Unlimited Mileage - When a traveler rents a car and there is no limit on how many miles they can drive. |
